Temperature sensors are devices that detect and measure the temperature of an object, environment, or substance and convert this temperature information into an electrical signal. These sensors are used in a wide range of applications across various industries for monitoring, control, and safety purposes. There are several types of temperature sensors, each operating on different principles.
Resistance Temperature Detectors
Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) are temperature sensors that measure temperature by correlating the resistance of the RTD element with temperature. The most common type of RTD is made of platinum wire due to its stable and repeatable temperature-resistance characteristics. RTDs operate on the principle that the electrical resistance of a material changes predictably with temperature.
Thermocouple
A thermocouple is a temperature sensor that operates on the principle of the Seebeck effect, where a voltage is generated when two dissimilar metals are joined at two different temperatures. The voltage produced is proportional to the temperature difference between the hot and cold junctions of the thermocouple.
Temperature Gauge
A temperature gauge is a device used to measure and display the temperature of a system or environment. It provides a visual indication of the temperature, making it easy for operators or users to monitor and control temperature-related processes.
Temperature dataloggers
Temperature data loggers are electronic devices designed to record and store temperature measurements over time. These compact and portable instruments are used in various industries and applications where monitoring and tracking temperature conditions are crucial.
Temperature controller
A temperature controller is a device that regulates the temperature of a system or process by maintaining it at a set point. It achieves this by monitoring the actual temperature and adjusting the heat input or cooling output as needed. Temperature controllers are widely used in industrial, commercial, and domestic applications to ensure that temperature-sensitive processes or equipment operate within specified temperature ranges.
Temperature Switch
A temperature switch is a device that is designed to open or close an electrical circuit in response to changes in temperature. It acts as a simple on/off control for temperature-related applications. Temperature switches are commonly used in industrial, automotive, and HVAC systems to monitor and control temperatures within specific ranges.
Handheld Thermometer
A handheld thermometer is a portable temperature-measuring device designed for easy and convenient use in various applications. These thermometers are compact, lightweight, and typically feature a simple interface for quick temperature readings. Handheld thermometers are commonly used in industrial, HVAC, food safety, and home environments.
